No one attacks me with impunity

The motto over the gate to the Edinburgh castle caught my attention as yet another demonstration of the common sense independent spirit, albeit at times fighting spirit, that I admire in the Scots.  I wonder how this will be interpreted in the referendum for independence September 18, 2014.  "Who will meddle" with Scotland?

According to the April 21, 2013 Guardian there are several justifications for independence and the possibility a new Scottish currency.  What would a new currency be based on and called? Will it be based on whiskey, stone, sheep, oil, strategic military base locations and golf?
